Safeguarding

In Safe Hands

At Purple Hill Homes , safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that protecting children is a shared responsibility one that involves every member of our team, as well as the wider network of professionals, families, and the community.

We work closely with local and placing authorities and follow robust safeguarding policies and procedures in full compliance with Regulation 16 of the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015. All concerns or disclosures are taken seriously and responded to in line with local safeguarding protocols. Under no circumstances will a concern be dismissed or ignored.

All staff are thoroughly trained in safeguarding awareness, recognition, and reporting. Our Registered Manager serves as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), ensuring clear accountability. Copies of our safeguarding policy are available upon request.

Championing Children’s Rights and Anti-Discrimination

We are proud to uphold a strong anti-discrimination ethos, supported by staff training, clear policies, and a commitment to inclusion and equality. Our staff educate children on the value of respecting others’ individuality and celebrating differences be they cultural, religious, or personal.

We expect all staff, visitors, and young people to demonstrate respect and inclusion. Discriminatory language or behaviour is addressed promptly and, where necessary, managed through supervision, education, or disciplinary action. Children have safe and accessible ways to raise concerns or experiences, whether directly with staff, during one-to-one sessions, or through independent visitors such as our Regulation 44 inspector.

Children are also supported to understand their rights and responsibilities, using tools such as keywork sessions, house meetings, and child-friendly guides. All information is tailored to their individual communication needs to ensure full accessibility and understanding

Preventing Bullying

At Purple Hill Homes , we have a zero-tolerance approach to bullying. We recognise that bullying can take many forms—verbal, physical, emotional, social, or online and may be motivated by factors such as race, gender, disability, or sexuality.

All staff receive training on identifying and responding to bullying and are expected to act immediately on any concerns. Children are supported to understand the impact of bullying through keywork discussions, the children’s guide, and regular house meetings.

Any incidents of bullying are addressed sensitively and thoroughly to ensure the wellbeing of all involved. Children are encouraged to speak up and are reassured that they will be listened to and supported.

Missing from Care and Absconding

We take every precaution to prevent unauthorised absences or children going missing from the home. However, should this occur, we follow a clear, structured procedure aligned with Local Authority protocols and individual risk assessments.

Each child has a bespoke plan outlining strategies to reduce risk and detailing the actions staff should take in the event of an absence. If a child leaves without permission or fails to return at an expected time, staff will attempt to locate them before notifying the police. Ongoing efforts to locate the child and maintain contact continue until their safe return.

Upon return, we support the child with a restorative conversation, explore the reasons behind the absence, and work with them, their social worker, and other professionals to reduce the likelihood of repeat episodes

Positive Behaviour Support

Purple Hill Homes  fosters a calm, structured, and nurturing environment grounded in the PACE model of therapeutic parenting. This approach Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, and Empathy helps children who have experienced trauma feel safe, valued, and understood.

Our behaviour management strategy is designed to encourage positive choices and emotional growth, and is rooted in respect, consistency, and clear boundaries. Staff use proactive strategies such as:

  • Reducing triggers and managing the environment to minimise conflict
  • Teaching children healthier ways to express their emotions
  • Reinforcing positive behaviours and celebrating successes
  • Supporting children to gain life skills and work towards independence

Each child has an individual behaviour support plan, developed in partnership with the child and their keyworker. A copy of our behaviour policy is available upon request

Local Risk Assessments and Safe Surroundings

We believe every child deserves to feel safe not just within our home, but in the surrounding community. Purple Hill Homes  conducts comprehensive location area risk assessments for each home location to identify potential environmental risks and ensure they are effectively managed.

These assessments inform care planning and placement decisions and are regularly reviewed in consultation with local and placing authorities. We are committed to balancing safety with freedom allowing children to explore, grow, and engage with their community while being appropriately safeguarded. Purple Hill Homes is currently located within the West Midlands.
