Our Staff: Training, Supervision & Positive Role Modelling

At Purple Hill Homes, we are committed to maintaining a highly skilled, compassionate, and well-supported team. Our staff play a vital role in shaping the experiences and outcomes of the young people in our care, and we invest heavily in their development, supervision, and continued professional growth.

Supervision and Staff Support

To ensure continued growth and performance, all team members participate in regular supervision:
  • New staff receive fortnightly supervision during their induction period.
  • Experienced staff engage in supervision every six weeks.
These sessions provide a supportive space to reflect on practice, set professional goals, and identify areas for development. They also contribute to each staff member’s annual appraisal, helping to track progress and plan future training needs. Each supervision is formally recorded, and any concerns are addressed with timely action. Annual appraisals take place following a six-month probation review and include feedback from young people to help assess overall performance and impact. The Registered Manager receives regular supervision from the Responsible Individual, ensuring leadership is also subject to reflection and accountability.

Staff as Positive Role Models

Our staff team is diverse and inclusive, with both male and female carers. All staff members sign a professional code of conduct upon employment, which clearly outlines expectations around behaviour, values, and attitudes. Positive role modelling is a fundamental part of our ethos. It is consistently reinforced through supervision and appraisal, ensuring every member of staff leads by example — promoting respect, emotional regulation, and positive relationships for the young people we support.

Ongoing Training and Professional Development

Our team members receive regular training through a combination of face-to-face sessions and a comprehensive e-learning platform known as The Training Hub. This programme offers a wide range of modules designed to meet the Quality Standards and ensure staff remain up to date with best practices in residential child care. It is our policy that all staff complete a Level 3 Diploma (formerly NVQ) in Residential Childcare within two years of joining the team. Many of our practitioners also undertake additional specialist training, helping them to develop advanced skills in areas such as safeguarding, trauma-informed care, and mental health.

Monitoring and Quality Assurance

At Purple Hill Homes , we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of care through rigorous and continuous monitoring.

Each of our homes receives a monthly visit from an independent Regulation 44 visitor, who assesses the quality of care and overall service provision. During these visits, the inspector engages with children, staff, families, and other professionals involved in the child’s life to gather a well-rounded view of the home’s performance. A detailed written report is then produced and shared with both the home and Ofsted, ensuring transparency and accountability.

In addition, internal quality assurance is carried out by the Registered Manager and the Responsible Individual, who regularly review the home’s performance against regulatory standards, care plans, and day-to-day practice.

All homes are formally inspected by Ofsted, whose findings contribute to ongoing service development and improvement. These processes ensure we remain focused on delivering safe, effective, and child-centred care at all times.

Our People

Purple Hill Homes is led by a dedicated and experienced leadership team, including the Director, Responsible Individual, Registered Manager, and Deputy Manager, supported by a team of Senior Residential Support Workersand Residential Support Workers.

Staffing levels are carefully tailored to meet the individual needs of the children in our care. This includes a core team of senior and support staff, with additional staffing provided as needed to ensure safety, consistency, and high-quality care at all times.

A senior member of staff is always on call, available to offer advice, guidance, or respond to any serious incidents. During the day, the Registered Manager or Deputy Manager is present in the home, providing leadership, support, and oversight to the team.

We ensure appropriate staffing coverage at all times, including a minimum of two staff on duty during the day, and waking night or sleep-in staff as required by the children’s care needs. If a member of staff is unable to attend their shift, cover is arranged promptly through another team member or designated bank staff to maintain continuity and care standards.
